+Day 12: Worst makeup product you ever bought?

Oh man, I don't come across horrible makeup very often so this is hard for me!
But, I think I have to go with Wet N Wild's mega liner liquid eyeliner! I even wrote a review on it over on beautylish !

"After reading a lot of reviews on this, I was super hopeful that I would love this! But alas, I have been quite dissapointed. I don't like how stiff the applicator tip is. I need a little flexibility with my liners and this does not have that. I know it says it's waterproof, and it is! But not being able to come off completely with makeup remover is a problem for me. I have to use makeup remover PLUS vaseline, which isn't so bad, but still a bit annoying. If i get too much on my eyes, it will find its was onto my lashes and clump them together. It's so awful trying to get it off of them and I'm left with red puffy eyes. I love all of Wet N Wild's products, but this was a huge miss for me."

+Day 11: What is your normal daily makeup?

I really don't do much at all for my day to day makeup! I put on a light dusting of powder all over my face and then do some kind of cat eye! Doesn't get any more simple than that in my book ;P

Rimmel London's Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent

In this photo i'm using Physician's Formula Eye Booster 2-in1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner
(Please excuse my grubby nails! I promise i'm painting them right after posting this! )

What I do is apply some of ELF's eye primer around my lashes and outer corner where I'll be placing the eyeliner. I've been testing out this eyeliner in particular the past few days so i can do a review on it in the upcoming week or so. So far, so good! I do set it with some black shadow, just out of habit from using my gel liner so often! Depending on how much time I have, I'll do a longer cat eye like being shown above. But if i'm in a hurry, I just do a little flick at the end of my lashes. I KNOW I should apply mascara, but the tube i've had needed to be thrown out and I've yet to find a replacement!
Once my eyes are complete, I powder my face, focusing on my oily spots (T-Zone) and MAYBE put on some of FRESH's Sugar Lip Treatment. After that, i'm out the door and ready for the day! :)

+Day 10: Biggest makeup pet peeve?

When people wear concealer on their lips and contour their face and it looks like they used dirt and then black out their eyes.

It's not flattering or cute or accenting their natural beauty in any way and it's just plain gross to me.
Other than that, I honestly cannot think of any at the time being!

What are your guys' pet peeves?

+Day 9: Last two makeup items you used up completely?

HMMM! That's a tough one! I would have to say my Burt's Bees Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil and my Almay Intense I-color Eyeliner!
This lip balm may be a bit pricey, but it's well worth it! It gets deep into your lips and leaves them so soft and smooth. It even gives them a red tint! I haven't had a chance to pick any more up, but I highly suggest you all try it! It's not waxy at all like some other products Burt's Bees puts out :)

LOVE this eyeliner! I had it in black and it was my favorite liner for my waterline! It stayed on very well and didn't bleed out under my lashes like a lot of liners do. I do believe it's hypoallergenic which is always a plus! The packaging is very lovely, with a twist up applicator and built in sharpener in the bottom! You really cannot go wrong with this bad boy here :)

+Day 8: How many new products do you purchase per month?

Oh man, probably about 4? I try to buy a couple new things every paycheck, and if it's something a bit pricey, then probably just two items a month! It's so easy to get carried away though, so I always do my research first on the product to make sure it's worth my time and money!

The only exception I have to buying new products, is with the cheaper brands like Wet N Wild! I will happily buy a handful of their stuff without feeling bad :)

+Day 7: Eyeliner everyday? Liquid, pencil, or gel?

If not everyday, every other day! I do go days without makeup, just to give my face a rest ;)
But anyways, as of recently, I use all three! I finally obtained a liquid liner worthy of my money! In order, i'll share what ones I use :)

Liquid- Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum
Now I haven't used this product long enough to see any results with my lashes, BUT, I can say that this product has such stellar precision! The first day I used it, it was a bit streaky and flaked after reapplying. But the next day, I shook it harder and longer (hehehe) and tried angling it down towards my face. It came out smooth and very opaque! I'm in love with this!

Pencil- Wet N Wild Color Icon Brow & Eye Liner
For 69-99 cents, this stuff works really darn well! I have 4 colors in Sky Blue, Black Black, Amethyst, and Turquoise! They all blend pretty well and stay on nicely with a setting powder of some sort :) Very pigmented too!

Gel- Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner
I've had this eyeliner for a while now and It really is quite amazing! The brush isn't that bad either! The only con I have with this product is that it's a little too thick for my liking, BUT, because of that I feel it lasts longer. I would definitely purchase this product again!

Hope you all enjoyed today's challenge!

+Day 6: List every foundation you've ever used, from best to worst

In all honesty, I NEVER use foundation, although I have owned three over the past few years!

The best one was Revlon's ColorStay Foundation for Normal/Dry skin
It still didn't help my dry skin, it actually accentuated it in some spots. (around my nose) It felt kinda heavy and cakey to me, but then again, i'm not used to wearing foundation.

The other ones i've tried were L'Oreal True Match. It was the first foundation I ever used. I can't really give you guys a say on how it worked, because it was YEARS ago!  Sorry about that!

Finally, Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid was SUCH  a letdown! It had such good hype, but in the end, was just awful! It made my skin even more dry than it already was! After a couple of uses I just gave it to my mom. It seems to work for her!

Overall, I just stay away from foundations because my skin is just too stubborn! It's oily in my T-zone but drying around my nose! I just dust my face lightly in the oily areas, and, use concealer when needed. That works well for me! :)

+Day 5: Lipstick, lipgloss, or lipstain - and top 3 shades

Lipstick for sure! Although, i've  have yet to try on a lipstain, but i'm pretty sure I wouldn't care for them! Lipgloss is just way too sticky for my liking, although I do wear it time to time!
You just can't ever go wrong with a good lipstick! And the best part with them is how cheap you can find them :D  Two out of my 3 top favorites are drugstore brand and I just love them to bits!

(L to R: KVD's Painted Love Lipstick in Lovecraft, Revlon Lipstick in Peach, and Covergirl's LipPerfection in Divine)

Divine is the most beautiful PERFECT purple color and I do believe it has some blue undertones because my teeth look a lot white with this on ;) It stays on beautifully throughout the day too! If you enjoy wearing bolder colors, this is the lipstick for you!

PEACH PEACH PEACH! It looks a bit more red in the photos, but I promise you that it lives up to it's name! Its so soft on your lips and in color! But very pigmented! This lipstick is very versatile and can be worn day or night!

(review on this guy is HERE!)
Lovecraft is my goto for a natural/nude lip! It's a bit pricey, but well worth your money! The color stays on all day without budging! The packaging is so delicate and hand drawn by KVD herself!

Sorry if these aren't the best swatches, but from top to bottom is Divine, Peach, and Lovecraft!

Hope you enjoyed my thoughts on these beauties :)

Oh man this took me a few minutes but I am pleasantly surprised at how much I have!

Eyes: 44
Lips: 30
Face: 10
Eyebrows: 3

And I'm not sure if brushes count, but I have 24 :)

+Day 3: Who is your biggest makeup inspiration, and why?

This is a hard one! I think out of everyone it would have to be my mom? She's the whole reason why I even fell in love with makeup and has been pretty darn supportive of me my whole life.

Now Guru wise, I would have to say Xsparkage or Goldiestarling! I've been watching their videos for a couple of years now and am just so amazed at the looks they create/recreate!
They have kept me hopeful that someday I can be just as successful and happy as they are!

+Day 2: Do you own any makeup palettes? What are they?

I do own a few makeup palettes!
I'm so in love with all of these and bought them all on sale! (with the exception of Mi Vida Loca, that was a birthday present from my wonderful boyfriend ♥ )

(L to R: coastal scents 88 Original, 88 Shimmer palettes)

(L to R: The Balm's Nude 'Tude and Kat Von D's True Romance: Mi Vida Loca)

(L to R: Vanity and Greed)
(Top and Bottom: Lust and Pride)

I will be doing a review on the Nude 'Tude and Mi Vida Loca palettes in the future, so keep an eye out for those! ;)

+Day 1: What is your favorite brand, and 5 top products from there?

Oh man, this one is really hard! I don't have a whole lot of makeup (at least, I don't think I do!) so this will be kinda hard to figure out! But I think my favorite, as of now, would be NYX! They are so crazy affordable and should be so much more for how wonderful the quality is! Their eyeshadows are so soft and easy to blend! The pigmentation is amazing as well. I just recently purchased one of their round lipsticks in Haute Melon and it's SOOOO creamy! (expect a review from that in the next week or so!) Speaking of creamy, I think it's safe to say that if you're a makeup lover, you'll know about NYX's jumbo eye pencils! I have two in Milk and Black Bean. They make such amazing bases and are super easy to blend!

And for my top five, well, i've listed off a few already! But i'll just go ahead and list off what they are, followed by their names :)
-Round lipstick in Haute Melon
-Loose pearl eye shadow in Orange Zest pearl
-Single eye shadow(s) in Black and White
-Jumbo eye pencil(s) in Milk and Black Bean
-Roll on Eye Shimmer in Blue

I would love to try more of their lipsticks, roll on shimmer, and eye shadows! Some products I've been meaning to buy are their Soft Matte lip Cream and a few different kinds of their blush!

Overall, this brand is amazing. I will happily keep buying products from them!

Review on
Kat Von D Painted Love Lipstick
(from L to R: A-Go-Go and Lovecraft)

These lipsticks are very pigmented and long lasting. A-Go-Go is a bright reddish orange color, like a coral on drugs.  It goes on very smoothly and is soft and a little creamy. It feels very good on my lips. If you like bright bold colors, you could very easily wear this day to day! Otherwise, this lipstick would be nice for a night out on the town or for when you go dancing. :)

Lovecraft is a very natural soft nude/pink and is very subtle. It is a little more on the dry side, but still applies fairly smooth. This is probably my most used lipstick, as it's very wearable for pretty much any occasion.

Overall these lipsticks are amazing! For $19.00, you're getting your moneys worth of product. I intend to buy more of these lipsticks and will do future reviews and swatches of those when the time comes. :)

PROS:
-long lasting
-smooth application
-very pigmented
-nice range of colors

CONS:
-can be drying
-is a bit on the pricier side

If anyone has tried these, leave a comment below letting me know your thoughts on them :)

Thursday, April 12, 2012

For as long as I can remember, I've loved makeup! It's just something that's always been so amazing to me. Watching my mom getting ready in the morning for work, she would fill in her eyebrows with such precision. She would make all these funny faces while trying to apply her mascara, and I would mimmick her when she wasn't looking. Always wearing a pretty peachy pink color on her cheeks to make herself look a bit more lively. Lipstick was always a soft pink, something flattering and natural. It was so inspiring.

While I always appreciated makeup, I never really started playing around with it until the 7th grade. I think that was mainly because I was going through my "Goth Phase" and needed to perfect my raccoon eyes. I was the first one of my group to figure out that you needed to set your eyeliner with eye shadow to prevent smearing. I felt so mature knowing that. I would do my friend's makeup and talk their ears off teaching them how to properly apply everything. Afterwards, they'd gush at how wonderful they looked and that was when I knew what made me happy. Sure applying makeup is a fun little hobby. Doing reviews on new products and finding your right shade of foundation is always so time consuming. But what I love the most about it, what I am most infatuated with about makeup, is the reaction people get after I've made them over.

Everyone is made beautiful, but not everyone can see that in themselves. Sometimes they need a little push in the right direction to really see what the world sees. Makeup can enhance your features so wonderfully, it's almost like magic. It's so awesome and I just get such an adrenaline rush thinking about it all. I've learned so much over the years, but still have a lot more to learn. I think with the help of the internet, I can be a makeup artist someday. I want to make a living doing something that I love and doing something that makes me happy. Here's to hoping that through this makeup blog that someday will come soon.
